Studying for the NREMT exam takes up a lot of time. This could be difficult for people with busy schedules, like medical workers or full-time professionals.
Still, it’s possible to study properly in your NREMT prep course and get the results you’re aiming for come test day. You just need the right time management methods, such as limiting distractions, using efficient study materials, and finding support.
Here’s a breakdown of how you can manage studying for the NREMT exam if you have a busy schedule:
Plan a Study Strategy
You can use to-study lists to build a study strategy. A to-study list is similar to a to-do list, as it outlines all the points that you plan on studying in a study session. This allows you to break up your study material into easy-to-manage blocks, ensuring that you have enough time to learn each concept and prevent your brain from overworking itself.
This method allows you to go through all of the exam content equally, helping to improve your NREMT practice test consistency when it’s time to assess your knowledge. Reaching the milestones on your list can give you a sense of accomplishment and motivate you to keep working.
Hyper-Focus During Study Sessions
You should carve out a specific period during your day for hyper-focused studying. This can just be two to three hours per day dedicated solely to studying–no distractions, whatsoever!
Identify and Limit Distractions
Even if we’re unaware of it, we waste a lot of our time doing unproductive activities, such as scrolling through social media or watching mindless TV. No matter what it is, if it’s not studying, it’s a distraction! Identify any time wasters that you engage in, and then make it a habit to limit them in your day-to-day life.
Use Audio-Video Materials
One of the most common NREMT study mistakes to avoid is depending solely on textbooks. There are tons of NREMT resources out there, several of which can activate different parts of your brain.
If you’re busy, using audio-visual materials could be an efficient way to study. Some videos cover way more ground in a few minutes versus a chapter in a textbook that could take you an hour to read.
Take Study Breaks
Your brain can only process so much information at a time. If you overload it, it might not be able to absorb what you’re studying, so you should take breaks.
You can try the Pomodoro technique, which uses intervals, such as studying for twenty-five minutes, then taking a break for five. Repeat this four times before taking a longer break.
Find Support
Find a community that can offer you guidance in your NREMT journey. Your peers can give you experience-backed tips on better time management, answer questions quickly when you need them, or simply provide moral support when you’re having a hard time.
