Difficulty Staying on Track for the NREMT

Man reading a notebook difficulty staying on track for nremt

To stay on track for the NREMT exam, it’s best to come up with a study plan–which should include NREMT online test prep–that you can follow. A study plan can keep you accountable and ensure that you’re reviewing all of the necessary materials. This way, you have enough time and bandwidth to study everything you need to pass the test.

Building an NREMT Study Plan

An NREMT study plan involves knowing what parts of the test you need to prepare for, assessing your knowledge, and practicing repetition. Here’s a step-by-step look into an effective NREMT study plan that you can follow:

Know the Content

Knowing the content of the NREMT exam allows you to zero in your efforts on what matters: the actual content of the test. This lets you cut out all the fluff and focus on questions you will actually see.

The NREMT exam revolves around five content areas:

  • Airway, respiration, and ventilation
  • Cardiology and resuscitation
  • Trauma
  • Medical, obstetrics, and gynecology
  • Emergency medical services operations

85% of the total content will focus on treating adults, while 15% will focus on pediatrics.

Study the Content

With the five NREMT content areas in mind, it’s time to start studying! In most cases, this means enrolling in an EMT certification class, but it also helps to search for other study materials that can boost your understanding of what you’re learning.

We recommend that you focus on only one resource. Many people think that using multiple different knowledge hubs will better prepare them for the NREMT exam. While that may work for some, having too much information will likely overwhelm you.

Assess Your Knowledge

Improving NREMT practice test consistency is a key part of an NREMT study plan. But remember–you shouldn’t rely heavily on practice tests. These are tools of assessment that qualify the knowledge that you have; they don’t help you learn new things.

Practice Repetition

If you’re having a hard time remembering a concept, keep repeating it until you develop a better understanding of it. After all, repetition is one of the most popular NREMT memory improvement techniques. A good benchmark for this is that if you can explain the concept simply to another person in a way that they can comprehend it, you have it down!

Tips to Stay on Track for the NREMT

Even with a robust study plan, it might still be challenging to stay on track for the NREMT. Here are some additional tips to help you keep at it:

Set a Dedicated Study Time

Each week, set aside specific days and times to spend studying or reviewing. Let these periods be dedicated to your NREMT prep–no distractions and no excuses!

Study Your Way

You should find the most conducive study method for you and stick to it. Some people learn best by watching videos, while others absorb content most effectively when they’re in complete silence. Some people prefer to study in groups, while others find it more efficient to work alone. So, try out different studying environments and do what works best for you!

Give Your Brain a Break

Like any other muscle, the brain needs to recover to work properly. Give your brain a break whenever you’re studying–you can do this by breaking up your sessions into short intervals spread throughout a week, instead of learning non-stop for a long period in one go.
