Can You Really Pass Your NREMT Exam With an Online Refresher?

Emergency vehicle, ambulance, EMT

Passing the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) exam to enter the field of emergency medical services (EMS) is not easy. If you are struggling, you are not alone. Many students take the exam multiple times before passing.

However, if you fail the NREMT exam three times, you must take an NREMT remedial course (also known as a ‘refresher course’) before sitting for the exam a fourth time. The good news is that the NREMT allows EMT candidates to complete their refresher coursework online via self-paced, pre-recorded, or virtual instructor-led programs.

For the coursework to be accepted by NREMT, the program must be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Prehospital Continuing Education (CAPCE).

A Refresher Course Is an Opportunity to Be Better

If you fail the NREMT exam, don’t be embarrassed. Consider it an opportunity to improve your knowledge, so you can provide the best care possible to those in crisis.

You simply need to revisit in depth and master the national core content. If you fail the NREMT exam, you will be sent a diagnostic report that will help you identify your knowledge gaps.

What Are CAPCE and NCCP?

CAPCE is the organization that develops and implements policies that standardize EMS continuing education. It accredits continuing education providers to ensure the programs offer high-quality training, help students meet their certification requirements, and promote innovative learning in the evolving field of emergency medicine.

The NCCP is a platform managed by the NREMT that is used to recertify EMS professionals. The NCCP model encourages continuous learning to ensure EMS personnel are up to date with current medical procedures.

Online Courses Work Better in Our Busy Lives

For many, online video content is far more engaging than sitting in a classroom for hours listening to an instructor. Students also often prefer an online format because they can study at their own pace from anywhere at any time, making it easier to fit a refresher course into their busy schedules. Online formats can also offer tech features that make online EMT refresher courses more effective

If you do a cost comparison of online versus in-person EMT refresher courses, it’s clear online courses are usually less expensive than in-person instruction. When customized, they can also help students focus on the topics they need the most help with.
