Best Study Resources for the Georgia EMT Exam

Best Study Resources for the Georgia EMT Exam

Before anyone can work as an EMT in Georgia, they must be certified by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) and the Georgia Department of Public Health (GDPH).

One of the requirements for the NREMT certification and online EMT certification in Georgia is passing the NREMT cognitive (written) exam. The best students utilize the textbook and study resources provided by their state-approved training programs, as well as other resources such as videos, flashcards, and study groups, to prepare for and pass the exam.

Why Studying Is So Important

The NREMT cognitive test is challenging, and many EMT candidates need to take it more than once. This not only delays their entry into the exciting world of emergency medicine services (EMS) and earning wages as an EMT, but it can also add unnecessary stress to their lives by prolonging the time it takes to pass. No one needs that.

Be proactive. Pool together recommended study resources and create a realistic study schedule. Ensure you have enough time allocated to studying all the topics that will be covered on the exam. Include breaks in the schedule to allow time for reviewing areas that need improvement and to give yourself the opportunity to fully absorb the material.

Make the Most of Your Training Program

You enrolled in one of the best EMT exam prep courses in Georgia for a reason. Your instructors are experts in the field of EMS. Stay engaged during class and don’t hesitate to ask questions.

Your training program and prep course most likely provided you with textbooks and access to other learning tools. Use them as part of your study routine. The instructors may also be able to recommend study techniques and guide you to resources they believe can help you prepare for the exam.

What Other Resources Have to Offer

Take a multi-faceted approach to studying. Use study guides, flashcards for medical, practice apps, and online practice exams that simulate the NREMT exam to help you prepare. The NREMT website is one resource, but The Paramedic Coach also offers study tips for the practical Georgia EMT test and NREMT cognitive exam that you may not have considered.

It’s also important to familiarize yourself with how the exam works so there are no surprises on test day.

Study With Others

Studying with other EMT candidates offers many advantages. It is an opportunity to discuss the topics that will appear on the exam, gain different perspectives on the material, and receive feedback on your opinions and observations. You can also quiz each other to reinforce your knowledge and identify areas that require more attention.

What Happens After You Pass the EMT Exam

After you pass the NREMT exam, submit all necessary documentation for NREMT certification on its platform. Once you have your NREMT certification in hand, read the application instructions page carefully, make sure you meet all the state requirements, and you can apply to the GDPH for your state EMT license through its license management system.
